Studer VISTA 5 – 42-fader version
Studer released
at the NAB in Las Vegas a 42-fader version of the Vista 5. This Compact Digital
Broadcast and Live Console has so far only been available as 32-fader version. An
additional bay of 10 input faders allows an operator to control 42 input
channels simultaneously, but equally importantly allows true two-man operation
of the desk.
This input bay is situated to the right of the output/master section, and can
be ‘isolated’ from any global adjustments made on the left side of the desk
using the LOCK mode. For example, changing fader layers or sections on the
left-side will not affect the right-hand side channel faders when locked. The
right hand fader section features its own control panel to switch in or out the
processing and EQs, so two operators will always have direct access within
their own sections and users don’t have to do any unnecessary moves across the
console. When not locked, all channels on the desk follow the global view
changes of displayed parameters, as well as following any section/layer
changes.
All other facilities on the Vista 5 are the same, including N-X (Cleanfeed or
mix-minus) busses, downmixing for surround/stereo multicast, and Contribution
mode to interrogate the sources feeding any given output.
The new optional cards for the D21m I/O systems also function with the Vista
5-42. These are the dual Dolby E card, which allows the operator to directly
decode an AES/EBU stream into 8 discrete channels, and the SDI card, which
gives the possibility to de-embed the audio stream from an SDI signal connected
via co-ax cable to the card.
This de-embedded stream can be processed and mixed, and then re-embedded into
the SDI stream for onward transmission. It is also possible to patch this audio
stream console internally to a Dolby E card for decoding and eventually routing
to the channel faders.
